DISCOUNT ON SHOPPING! AND WHAT PERCENTAGE OF MY BOOK DID I READ? ACTIVITIES
As part of the mathematics course in the 5th grade, "Discount on Shopping!" and "What Percentage
of My Book Did I Read?" activities were held as an in-class activity this week. Our students realized
the mathematical mistake in a sales strategy that they encountered in everyday life at the discount
on shopping activity. In the activity, what percentage of my book I have read, our students first
estimated what percentage of their books they read. Then, using the pages of the book, they
calculated how close they came to their estimates with the calculations they made. With these two
in-class activities, it was aimed for our students to learn permanently by connecting the subject of
percentages with daily life.
